The second “Advancing Arab Women in Technology: Strategy Made Reality” two-day workshop was hosted by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) in April 2009 in Doha, Qatar. Arab and U.S. organizational leaders and women-in-technology experts gathered at the conference to change the perception of women in technology, connect women to technology, and promote the participation of women in technical fields.

Keynote speaker, ictQATAR Secretary General Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber explained “Qatar is striving to be a knowledge economy and truly the rest of the world is becoming a knowledge society. ICT allows women to have full access to this knowledge society. At ictQATAR we are working o connect women to the technologies that will enrich their lives and inspire confidence in their future.”

A major focus of the workshop was to move forward with plans to create the Centre for Women and Technology for the Arab Region (CWTAR), which will focus on opportunities for women and innovative technologies in the global economy. The planned center will build on the current best practices to improve and increase educational development and access to relevant technologies.
